Eligible students can see a physician or nurse at no charge. The basic health insurance included
in the student health fee will cover most labs and x-rays, however there is no prescription
coverage. An extended insurance plan is available for purchase at the beginning of each
term that is a more comprehensive plan. If a student is prescribed a medication by one of our doctors, they can fill the
prescription at our dispensary window where we sell medications at a reduced cost. Students
can pay for prescriptions by having their account billed.
Our professional staff consists of 6 physicians, 1 nurse practioner, 10 registered
nurses, and 3 medical assistants. Medical residents from OHSU also provide services in the clinic. To learn more about our staff, please see below:

How to make SHAC'S health services work for you:
All medical appointments
- Arrive 15 minutes early for first appointments and annual exams.
Arrive 5 minutes early for other appointments. If you have not arrived 5 minutes into
your appointment time it may be given to a waiting patient.
- A $25 no-show fee will be charged for the missed appointment.
If you will not be able to keep your appointment call by 6pm the night before the
appointment to avoid $25 fee.
- Our services are in high demand. Your patience and flexibility are greatly
appreciated.
Physician appointments
- Can be made in advance by calling or stopping by the clinic and
speaking with one of our receptionists.
- Please make women's annual exams, follow-up appointments and medication refill
appointments early because they fill up quickly with a 2-4 week wait time.
Nurse appointments/ drop-in visits
- Often nurses are able to provide the care needed using standing orders and
nursing skills. If needed, a nurse may be able to work you in with a physician
assigned to provide urgent care that day.
- Nurse appointments can be made for the same day. Call early! We open at 8am.
- Our busiest times are afternoons, Mondays and Fridays.
- Drop in hours vary by day. We break for lunch from 12-1. Wait times are shorter
before lunch.
- During times of high usage, emergencies are given priority.
Medication Dispensary
- We require 48 hours for refills. Request a refill before you run out.
- Expect at least an hour wait for
prescriptions written at your appointment. You are always free to take your
prescriptions to the pharmacy of your choice. Please note that some medications can
only be dispensed by a provider between 12-1 and 4-5. Your provider will be able to let
you know if your medication falls under that category.
- The basic student insurance does not cover prescriptions, however, our dispensary
prices are usually lower than outside pharmacies. The fee for your medications is
billed to your student account at the time it is filled.
- All prescriptions expire one year from the date they are written. If you will
need refills past that point make sure to schedule a physician appointment.
- To save you time, we recommend requesting several months of birth control at once.
