SHAC Transition Committee: Research Assistant


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Portland State University's Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a community-based health care organization that provides high quality, accessible mental and physical health services targeted to the health needs of the PSU student population. SHAC supports the university mission, and collaborates with the university staff and faculty to support student success.

SHAC is in the midst of an organizational transition. A Transition Committee has been formed comprised of SHAC employees under the direction of the Vice-Provost for Student Affairs.

The paraprofessional position to be filled will work specifically with the SHAC Transition Committee and the Vice-Provost for Student Affairs in researching the Urban 20 Universities and other universities via the Internet as assigned using a pre-determined set of research questions. There may be other research duties assigned.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Current PSU graduate student in good academic standing
  • Extreme attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong internet research skills
  • Comfortable with phone interviewing
  • Experience in health care delivery
  • Familiarity with SHAC: services offered to students, organizational structure, student insurance and SHAC website (www.shac.pdx.edu)
  • Able to start immediately
  • Presentation and group skills
  • Enjoy working as part of a team yet comfortable working alone on or off site
  • Commitment to the Student Affairs vision of "Cultivating Student Success"
  • Commitment to the students of Portland State University and to the mission of Portland State University and the motto "Let Knowledge Serve The City"


COMPENSATION:
This paraprofessional position does not include tuition remission. The monthly salary is approximately $576. This is a .30 FTE appointment requiring 12-15 hours per week from approximately March 28, 2005 - April 22, 2005. This position may be reappointed for future research duties as assigned by the SHAC Transition Committee.
